I read this book time ago, and I would recommend it to anyone who would like to know something about the American way of life.

 

Throughout this book, you will be able to know what the American life and society l was like in the eighteen century.

 

Louisa May Alcott was a famous writer in the American modern literature.She was born in 1832 and died in 1888.

 

She is very well known by her novel: “Little women”.

 

She also wrote other books like “Little men”, which was also very successful.

 

The background of the story takes place during the American Civil War, which started in 1861: It divided the people of the United Stated in two groups: the North states, which were industrial and the South states, the agricultural ones.

 

In the story, four sisters: Meg(16), Jo(15), Beth(13), Amy(12) live with their mother and a maid, the old Hannah Mullet. They are a very close family and you can see how the life of this family develops while the father, who is a doctor, is in the North Army helping injured soldiers.

 

The story shows the feelings and expectations of an ordinary family in those years.

 

Jo, one of the daughters, tell us the story, she speaks about

 

the difficulties produced by the war, and the adventures of every member of the family.
