London is the capital of England and the United Kingdom , and the largest city and urban area in Great Britain and the entire European Union.

 

Since 1067, the city has had the same rights as a county and has only depended on royal authority.

 

From the sixteenth century until the mid-eighteenth century London benefited from political centralization and expansion of maritime commerce developed by Tudors and continued by the Stuarts.

 

Much of the current London belongs to the Victorian era . Until the early nineteenth century the capital was reduced to the original Roman city , over Westminster and Mayfair .

 

It´s a global city , the nerve center in the field of arts , commerce , education , entertainment , fashion , finance , media , research ,tourism or transport . It´s next to New York the principal financial center of the world and one of the largest metropolitan Areas PIB . It´s also a global cultural capital .

 

Forty-three universities in the city make up the largest concentration of colleges throughout Europe .

 

London is the setting for many works of literature The literary centers of the city have traditionally been Hampstead and since the early twentieth century Bloomsbury.

 

In London there are many museums , galleries and other cultural institutions , some of which are major attractions in addition to fulfilling a research paper .

 

London has four sites declared World Heritage Sites : The Tower of London ,The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew the site consists of the palace, Westminster Abbey and Saint Margaret´s Church and Greenwich
