Carnival is a public celebration that takes place before the Christian Lent. It can be in \"\"<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/span>February or March (like this year). The experts think that it wasn\u00b4t a religious celebration, that was a pagan celebration. The first civilization that starts with the Carnival was the inhabitants of Egypt that celebrated it in honor of some of their Gods like Apis (the bull God) 5 00 years ago. Then it moved all around the world and now it\u00b4s a tradition in almost every place. Although there are a lot of differences between the celebrations in the different parts of the world, the objective of the Carnivals is always the same: to have fun!<\/span><\/p>\n

Why do we wear masks in Carnival? That\u00b4s a good question with a very simple answer. Carnival is a time of having fun, a time of permissiveness<\/span><\/span><\/span> and a time to lose the control. In the ancient times, the people used these days to do things that weren\u00b4t allowed the rest of the year and they wore masks because they didn\u00b4t want to be recognized. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Famous Carnivals: The most famous ones are in Brazil (R\u00edo de Janeiro and Recife for example). They make very large parades with lots of floats and people with flashing clothes. They also dance a lot. In Central and South America is where the most surprising Carnivals are. In Bolivia (Tarija), Colombia (Barranquilla). Also Colonia (Germany), Binche (Belgium) or Venice (Italy) have a very strong Carnival tradition.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

We know how is it in other parts of the world but\u2026How is Carnival in Burgos? We haven\u00b4t got a very ancient Carnival tradition but we still celebrate it. The small kids wear a costume and go to the streets. It\u2019s usually about a T.V character like Spiderman or Little Twinkle. The young people make parties whit their friends or uses those days to study. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
