LETTERS FROM SANTA CLAUS by Cristina Miguel Alday

J.R.R. Tolkien was a famous English writer, poet, philologist and university professor in Oxford. He is well known for his fantasy books «The Hobbit», «The Lord of the Rings» and «The Silmarillion». Here you can read about a very different book.

Every year, for more than twenty, when Christmas was about to come, the children of J. R. R. Tolkien received an envelope with atolkienstamp from the North Pole. Inside there was a letter written with strange trembling handwriting and a brightly coloured drawing or some sketches. The sender was Santa Claus. The letters appeared mysteriously, often sprinkled with fresh snow in the fireplace, and sometimes the postman brought them. Letters spoke about the North Pole, entertaining or alarming events, always accompanied by wonderful drawings: how all the reindeer sleds and scattered gifts were prepared; how the Polar bear climbed the North Pole and fell through the roof of the House of Santa Claus to land in the dining room; and how a horde of goblins living in caves under the House had declared the war! A good gift for kids each coming holiday season of Christmas.
